Kaori's blog in Oranda: ロレーヌの歴史

それでは観光編です。
あまり観光するところはないのですが、
車で少し散策しました。

日本人はあまり行かないだろうなという場所ですが、
やっぱり歴史をたくさん感じました。

いろいろインターネットでも情報を探しましたが、
ほとんどがフランス語でした。
ということで、今回の説明はＭにお願いしました。
私がそれを訳しています。

Grand (Vosges) is a small village situated in the French region of Lorraine.
Its claim to fame is the presence of remarkable Gallo-Roman ruins inside the village itself.
A sanctuary to Apollo was built there in 70-140 AD as well as a basilic which ruins are still visible in the village.

ロレーヌ地方にあるグラントという町に行きました。
ガロ・ロマン文化の時代にグラントの町自体が破壊され
その規模の大きさからも有名です。
アポロの神殿は70から140年に建てられました。
この村にある教会もそのころに建てられています。

The most beautiful remain is the mosaic that was covering the floor of the basilic.
It is very well preserved and one of the largest in Europe. The building shown in this photo, built on the foundations　of the former basilic, hosts the mosaic.

この建物の中には過去、教会があり、
その教会は破壊されてしまいましたが、
フロアであった美しいモザイクが残されていました。

とてもよく保存されていて、ヨーロッパの中でも最も大きいものとされています。

The most impressive ruin of the Gallo Roman city of Grand is
its very well preserved amphitheatre, built at the end of the Ist century AD.
This amphitheatre could host 17000 visitors and is one of the biggest in Europe!

この劇場もグラントで破壊されたものの一つで
よく保存されており、1世紀の終わりに建てられました。
この劇場は17000人の観客を収容でき、
ヨーロッパの中でも最大のものの中の一つとされています。

These arches and the reconstructed part of the amphitheatre give an idea
of its impressive size.
このアーチ、再構築された部分を見ると
驚くべき大きさが想像できます。

A few kilometers away from Grand is the the small village of Domremy la Pucelle. La pucelle is
an old fashioned French word for "maiden" or "virgin" and refers to none other than ... Joan-of-Arc. Indeed the maiden was born in this village where her alleged house can be visited
グラントから数メートル先にある小さな村Domremy La pucelleにいきました。
La pucelleは昔のフランス語で「未婚の、処女」という意味だそうです。
ジャンヌダルク、この少女はこの町で生まれました。

La Mothe
破壊されてしまった町、要塞を訪れました。

Lorraine was not always part of the French Kingdom-Republic-Empire, and has long been an independant Duchy. This independant region located between the Kingdom of France
and the Holy Roman-German Empire was a thorn in the side of the French Kings. The fortified city
of La Mothe was probably the tip of that thorn as it offered the Germans a possible bridge
head to invade France. After unsuccessful negociations between the Duchy and the Kingdom of
France, the French took drastic action and sieged the city on three accounts (1634 1642 1645). The third time,
the city was razed, the inhabitants evicted and their belongings seized. The city was quite a large and important one but this is difficult to imagine when one looks at the surrounding region which consists mostly of scattered villages and grazing cows.
ロレーヌはフランス国のものではない時期も多くあり、
独立した公国領である時期も長くありました。
この独立した地方はフランス国と神聖ローマ帝国の間にあり、
フランスの国王を悩ませてきました。
このLa Motheという要塞はドイツがフランスを侵略する良い動機となりえました。
フランスは徹底的な行為をとり3度も包囲しました（1634、1642、1645）。
3度目にはこの町は破壊され、住民は立ち退かされ、持ち物も奪われました。
この町はとても大きく、重要でしたが、
今では草を食べる牛など、何もない場所で、
そのような大きな町があったとは想像できません。
